After sending this spread of various designs to the client, having liked different elements from each, the design was then revised to the illustrations shown below.
The hands were redrawn as skeletons reaching from below as the protagonist ascends on burning wings.
Below is an alternate design that was also given to the client, with the macabre theme still present.
